"Galli" is Latin for chicken; "ova" for egg. The Galliova Awards are presented annually to recognise the best food and health/wellness media and content creators in South Africa.
Sponsored by the Egg and Broiler Producers of the South African Poultry Association (SAPA) and administered by Protactic, the Awards open every May and culminate in an invitation-only ceremony in Cape Town the following October.
Entry is free and open to journalists, writers, food content creators, health and wellness content creators, photographers, and social media influencers with a credible following. Entrants may submit up to three categories.

- · Originality, creativity, and a distinctive voice
- · Visual appeal, photography, and food styling
- · Useful, practical information for the reader
- · Meaningful inclusion of locally produced eggs and chicken
The ceremony
Winners are announced in person at an invitation-only ceremony in Cape Town in October. Trophies, prize money, and a year of bragging rights are awarded across nine categories totalling more than R200 000.
